Alright, I know I need additional pillows with some color. That aside, this is my living room today.
I posted the components of my living room in this post, and I’ve spoken about the different pieces in a few different posts, but, here it is in one comprehensive place, in actual snaps.
I think my first order of business should be a confession. My Turkish rug is my favorite, but it really is just a touch too small for the space, and I wanted the living room to be cozier. I purchased this rug as a nice neutral base. The vintage rug is now living in my bedroom, and the new 8×10 is here for now. I miss a rug with a little more personality, so, I’m not sure this is a permanent solution, but, I have to say it is VERY soft and cozy. (Update: after taking these pictures, I have returned the new rug, and we are back to the drawing board)
I spoke about the boucle chair here. I’m not sure if I mentioned that it’s super comfortable for me (I’m 5’3”). It’s been living here for about a month, and the verdict is still that I’m happy with it. I didn’t love the lack of contrast with the chair and the new rug, which is part of the reason I decided to return the rug.
Initially when I was putting the living space together, there was no wood anywhere, so I knew I wanted something to warm the space up when I was searching for a coffee table. I still think an oval would have been ideal here, but, I couldn’t nail down a great combination of price/size/finish. I also was trying to avoid anything with too solid of a base. With the space being small, I wanted the coffee table to have legs so it would take up less visual space. I found this one online. I was drawn to the simple shape and I loved the wood grain. Oh, and it was less than $200. It’s teak, so a very durable wood, but it came without any finish on it, which I was surprised by (It wasn’t sold as an outdoor table). Teak can be left untreated (and probably should be when left outside), but I wanted to have something on it to prevent stains. I used a clear teak sealer, which seems to be working well, but it has fumes and I should NOT have used it in my not well ventilated apartment.
I could go on and on about the sconces forever. I think it would be nice if there was less space between the sconces and the art, but they really make me happy, and are so practical.
(I’ll spare you talking more about my garbage-find art.)
I’m not sure I talk about my couch that often. I got it back in 2014 from a company called Sofa.com, which is a UK company that briefly had a US presence. I actually think they ceased operations here about a week after my couch was delivered. They are luckily still going strong in the UK. It’s a classic English roll arm, and it really is beautiful. Which is why I hate to say it, but, if I could change one thing, I would switch out the sofa. I’m just craving a more casual look. Call it a seven year itch. But, it will never go out of style, and it is staying. If you’re looking for something similar, Interior Defined has the Rose sofa.
My campaign dresser also got it’s own post. Of course so many retailers now carry campaign dressers, which wasn’t the case back in 2014! This is a pretty great version.
And let’s be honest, ideally a Frame TV would be perched on top of that dresser, but, when I last replaced my TV (my old one just straight up died one day, which was fun), the Frame was still $$ (it’s still not cheap now, but I think it’s dropped in price some) and I was not expecting the surprise expense of a new TV in general. My mom is an OG Frame user, and it is pretty great. When this one goes I’ll definitely invest in one.
So that’s my living space as it is. I’ll of course need to update it when I find a hopefully slightly larger vintage rug.
