I had so much fun reimagining my living room in this post that I wanted to do it for my bedroom as well. I applied the same rules as I used then, keeping just the current furnishings I have (bed, nightstands, rug, lamps, art, armoire) only replacing them with a very healthy budget. For the purposes of this post, I didn’t consider the other side of the room, aka, my gallery wall.
You can read all about my bedroom in this post, but as a reminder here is its current look.
And here is the reimagined dream bedroom…
The bed is the only thing I maybe cheated just a smidge with. Because my room is only about 9’x12’, the extra depth added by the upholstery on this beauty may make it a little too large for the room, but I probably could get a wingback headboard in the room and still have clearance at the foot to walk by. I also would lose all the underbed storage I currently have, but I know I could add another storage piece in my living room if I had to, so I’m letting myself have this one. I’ve wanted an upholstered wingback bed for a few years now, they just seem so cozy, and this one is dreamy. Because the room is small in scale and I don’t want to overwhelm it, I opted for a low-back version. This also allows for some large scale art above the bed.
The art is this super serene scene from Aileen Fitzgerald that I spotted on Shoppe by Amber Interiors. I looked at her other pieces and I just love her work. I’m really into the idea of a very calm outdoor scene in a bedroom. Especially one that is right in the middle of Manhattan. I may grab one of her prints for my mother’s guest room I’m still working on.
I think I’ve made it clear in the past that my love of curved armoires runs deep. I so wanted this one for my room, but, alas it was out of budget. I do love the woven one I currently have, but, if I’m reimagining the room, I’m for sure getting the Leanne Ford one I’ve been eyeing all year.
If I’m eliminating the caned armoire in the dream version of my bedroom, then I definitely want to bring in the natural woven material through the nightstands. These aren’t anything groundbreaking (I see them all over the internet, but maybe that’s just because my algorithms know I love cane?) but the petite scale would work for my space and I love the organic material and ample storage they provide.
I hope you don’t think I was going to reimagine my room and not mention a single item from CB2. Have you seen their new lighting? They are killing it in that department. To be perfectly honest, so many of the new lighting collections that have come out this spring have been gorgeous and I actually think I could have chosen something from a different retailer, but, I honestly couldn’t not mention my favorite in this post. Plus, the simplicity of this lamp is just so perfect. The texture, the restrained shape, the shade that is the exact size and shape I’ve been hunting for my vintage chrome lamps? I would love to add these to my room.
I’m actually not convinced that if I was redecorating my bedroom I’d actually switch out my vintage rug. If I were going to though, I think I’d ground the room with something with maybe just a hint of color. This rug from McGee & Co. is one that I am always drawn to on their site, and I think would be the perfect base for this new version of the room.
Okay, and now the fun part, let’s break down the dream vs. reality budgets for this space. Oh, and just FYI, I didn’t include a frame for the art in either version.
Dream: Bed – $3,498 Art – $500 Armoire – $1,699 Nightstands – $798 Lamps – $498 Rug – $2,099 Total – $9,092
Reality: Bedframe – $162 Headboard – $96 Art – $200 Armoire – $530 Nightstands – $698 Lamps – $170 Lampshades – $56 Rug – $569 Total – $2,481
Obviously I’m leaving out very important things that went into my room, like you know, a mattress, but for just the basics here, although I’d squeal with delight if I was actually able to bring the dream to life, I’m pretty pleased with the cost/benefit ratio of my current room. I definitely sleep well knowing I didn’t spend $9k on this room.
(Too cheesy with the last sentence?? I think probably yes, but I couldn’t help myself.)
